Job Description:
Posting Summary The Senior Network Engineer provides high-level
design (IPv4 and IPv6), troubleshooting and management functions
for the University Network. This position contributes to the
architecture, design, implementation, and reliable operation of
UVM’s wired and wireless network infrastructure spanning academic,
research, administrative, and residential environments.
Responsibilities include providing problem resolution for
applications which run over the local University network and
Internet. Configure, troubleshoot and maintain the Voice over IP
infrastructure, E-911, wireless, firewalls, VPNs, routers,
switches, DWDM and Ethernet technologies. Reliable networking is
critical to the operations of UVM , and this position helps build
scalable, reliable, and highly available networking services,
aligned with institutional priorities. The Senior Network Engineer
will help lead complex network projects, collaborate with central
and distributed IT staff, and engage with stakeholders across UVM .
Desirable Qualifications Experience with network performance
monitoring, and debugging tools, 802.1x, Radius and/or SAML / SSO
authentication, wireless, network intrusion detection, IPv6, IP
video, VoIP, EIGRP , BGP and network and server virtualization are
highly desirable. Experience with automation and scripting
technologies, and version control. Familiarity with research and
education networking (e.g. Internet2, eduroam) and high-throughput
research data flows (e.g. Science DMZ concepts).
