Telemetry I Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Telemetry
Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Rotating shifts (Days/Eves/Nights) Hours
per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Active RN
license Certifications: BLS certification, Telemetry certification,
ACLS certification Must-Have: Must be able to read telemetry
strips. Description: Davenport 8 is a 37-bed medical telemetry
unit. Patients may be admitted from the emergency department,
transferred in from other units, or directly admitted by a
physician. Patients are often on Cardizem drips, Nitroglycerin
drips, Lasix drips, and Heparin drips. The unit cares for patients
with NSTEMI, post-pacemaker, and post-cardiac catheterization.
Primary diagnoses include congestive heart failure, atrial
fibrillation, pulmonary embolism, and pneumonia. Patients with
alcohol-related issues and dementia with cardiac co-morbidities are
also admitted. The unit occasionally cares for surgical patients.
Travelers are required to float to applicable units when needed.
Rotating shifts may include days, evenings, and nights as needed.
Knowledge of cardiac drips and the ability to interpret telemetry
strips are essential. Nursing care for patients post-cardiac
catheterization and pacemaker is preferred but not required. The
RN-to-patient ratio on day and evening shifts is 1:4, with a
maximum of 5 patients. The night shift ratio is 1:5-6. The day
shift on weekdays includes a Charge Nurse without a patient
assignment. The facility includes 37 beds with various room
configurations. The current patient census is 37. The electronic
